Lerma
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
One man shaped Lerma: Francisco de Sandoval y Rojas, first Duke of Lerma and favourite of Philip III, who filled this hilltop above the Arlanza with Herrerian buildings in the 17th century. His ducal palace now houses a parador, and the main square below it is one of the largest in Spain. Roast milk-fed lamb from wood-fired ovens and Arlanza wines are the local fare.
