Sottoguda
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Ladin speakers call it Staguda: a mountain hamlet at 1,250 metres in Val Pettorina, right below the Marmolada glacier. Its wooden haylofts (tabièi) and stone houses have survived almost unchanged, and blacksmiths here have worked wrought iron since the late 18th century. The Serrai, a 2.5 km gorge cut by the Pettorina torrent, leads towards Malga Ciapela, though the 2018 Vaia storm destroyed its access road.
