Stone houses with red tiles and green wooden shutters climb Fornalutx on several levels, joined by cobbled, car-free lanes that fade into orchards. It sits in the Sóller valley below the Puig Major massif, among orange and lemon trees, with olive groves higher up where some trees are over a thousand years old. Life gathers in the café-lined Plaça d'Espanya, overlooked by the church.

Highlights

  • Plaça d'Espanya, with cafés below the church and its large façade clock
  • The public washing house, fed by water in open stone channels from the hills
  • The old tower on the east side, now the town hall
  • Olive groves above the village, some trees over a thousand years old
