The Amalfi Coast and Cilento
Day by day
Driving times are approximate, from OpenStreetMap roads without traffic; long legs are rougher estimates. The Google Maps links give up-to-date times.Day 1
Cliffs, fjord and a stairway village by the sea
- Leaving from Naples Airport
- ~50 min driving · 53 kmFuroreCampania
Start in Furore, where painted murals brighten the walls beside the road. Look down on the fjord and its fishing hamlet, once home to Rossellini and Magnani; in summer, the bridge above it hosts a round of the world high-diving championship. Then on to Conca dei Marini.
- ~15 min driving · 13 km
Conca dei MariniCampaniaConca dei Marini is a village of navigators, its houses tumbling down to the little bay of Marina di Conca. Go into the Grotta dello Smeraldo, a cave in the sea cliffs, or walk out to the watchtower on the headland. Finish with an afternoon sfogliatella Santarosa, before going on to Atrani.
- ~10 min driving · 8 kmAtraniCampania
Atrani is all stairways and tiny squares, squeezed into its valley. Pause by the Moorish-style fountain on the piazzetta, and climb to the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maddalena above the sea. Stay the night here, and slip down the old passage to the beach.
Overnight in Atrani
Day 2
From Cilento's hilltop castle to painted houses
- ~1 h 40 driving · 93 km
CastellabateCampaniaClimb to Castellabate's hilltop village and the Castello dell'Abate, with its art museum and underground passages. Take a coffee on the café-lined square and look out over the bay, then try the local white fig, perhaps as fichi impaccati, before you move on to Albori.
- ~1 h 20 driving · 73 km
AlboriCampaniaAlbori's brightly painted houses sit high above the sea. Wander its vaulted lanes to Santa Margherita, the village church, and its frescoes, then stroll down to the beach of Marina d'Albori. Spend the night up here among the citrus groves, and let the evening end quietly.
Overnight in Albori
Day 3
A last drive back to Naples
- ~50 min driving · 54 kmReturning to Naples Airport
