Perinaldo

The astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini was born in Perinaldo, and the village has its own astronomical observatory. It runs along a slender hill crest between the Verbone and Merdanzo valleys, held by the Doria from 1288. Franciscan friars brought the Taggiasca olive here in the 17th century, and in 1794 Napoleon spent a night in the Castello Maraldi.
