Lugnano in Teverina

People fleeing barbarian raids founded Lugnano in the 7th century on a rocky spur above the left bank of the Tiber, and its towers and stout walls later earned it the name Città della Teverina. At its heart stands the Romanesque collegiate church of Santa Maria Assunta, with a carved portico dated 1230 and mosaic floors. Olive groves cover the hills around.
