Walls still ring the whole of this medieval village on the high, central part of Giglio island, about 400 metres up among holm oaks, olives and maritime pines. From the Rocca aldobrandesca the view runs over the Tuscan Archipelago and the Maremma coast, and on clear days as far as Elba and Corsica. Inside, each of the four rioni keeps its own colour and symbol.

Highlights

  • Rocca aldobrandesca, with views over the whole archipelago
  • The medieval walls, entered through the Porta della Rocca (IT)
  • Church of San Pietro, with an ivory crucifix by Giambologna
  • Panficato, a sweet loaf of figs, raisins and chocolate
  • Feast of San Mamiliano on 15 September, with the Palio degli Asini
