Fontainemore
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Every five years the people of Fontainemore set out in procession to the sanctuary of Oropa, a procession recorded as early as 1557. The village lies in the Lys valley, the easternmost in the Aosta Valley, with a hump-backed bridge over the river and its parish church of Sant'Antonio. Nearby the Lys plunges into the Gouffre de Guillemore, the gorge that traditionally divided French-Provençal speakers from the Walser.
