Fiumefreddo Bruzio
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
The Sicilian painter Salvatore Fiume adopted this medieval town on a Tyrrhenian clifftop, painting the walls of its half-ruined castle and the dome of San Rocco for free from 1975. Fiumefreddo Bruzio stands on a plateau that drops sheer towards the beach, with olive groves and vineyards below and the forests of Monte Cocuzzo behind. Two of Fiume's bronzes look out to sea from its squares.
