Castiglione del Lago
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
This limestone promontory was once the fourth island of Lake Trasimeno, until the water between it and the shore was filled in. Inside its walls and three gates, the streets were laid out under the della Corgna, who ruled here in the 16th and 17th centuries from a palace frescoed by Pomarancio. A walkway with arrow slits facing the lake links the palace to the Rocca del Leone.
