Buonconvento

Where the Arbia flows into the Ombrone on the Via Cassia, Buonconvento still has the walls raised around it between 1371 and 1383. The emperor Henry VII died within its territory in 1313, poisoned, legend says, by a local friar. Along the main street of this Via Francigena stop in the Crete Senesi, a museum shows Sienese religious art by Duccio and Pietro Lorenzetti.
