Barolo
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
This small Langhe town lends its name to the Nebbiolo red known as the king of wines, and it is built for tasting: wine shops around the castle pour aged bottles, and famous crus such as Cannubi lie just outside. Barolo sits on a spur ringed by an amphitheatre of hills, beneath the castle of the Falletti, the banking family who held it from 1250.
