Here the village is the monastery: Béatrix de la Tour du Pin founded a Carthusian charterhouse in 1280; after the monks were expelled in 1792 it was auctioned in 44 lots, and local families moved in. It is said to be the only charterhouse in the world to have become a village. On the heights above stands the chapel of Jurieu.
