Madame de Sévigné wrote many of her famous letters to her daughter, the Countess of Grignan, and spent long stays at the Renaissance château that crowns this rocky outcrop in the Drôme provençale. She is buried in the collegiate church below the castle terrace. The village honours her with a festival of letters each July, amid a countryside of lavender and truffles.
