Roseto Valfortore
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Emigrants from this stone hill town in the Daunian Mountains reached Pennsylvania in the 1880s to work the slate quarries, and there founded a new Roseto. The original stands at 658 metres above the upper Fortore valley; its sandstone was once exported, and faces the 15th-century cathedral front of Ariano Irpino. Black truffles and honey come from the surrounding Vetruscelli woods.
