Offagna grew up around its fortress, built by Ancona between 1454 and 1456 to guard the frontier on the Aspio river, when the village was one of some twenty castles of the Anconan republic. The square rocca, with a corner tower and central keep, still crowns the hilltop 15 kilometres from Ancona. In July the streets fill with dances, games and contests for the Feste Medievali.
