Forza d'Agrò stood in for Corleone in The Godfather, and its mother church is easy to spot in all three films. The village clings to a mountain at 420 metres above the Ionian coast, with the remains of a Norman castle on the peak above. Its narrow lanes lead to small squares, viewpoints and the steps through the Porta Durazzesca to the 15th-century church of the Trinity.

Highlights

  • Chiesa della Santissima Annunziata, rebuilt in 1707 and seen in The Godfather
  • Santissima Trinità, reached by steps through the Porta Durazzesca arch
  • Ruins of the Norman castle on the peak above the village
  • Noble palaces of the 17th and 18th centuries: Mauro, Miano, Garufi
