Caldes

A five-storey tower built in the 1230s to watch over trade in the Val di Sole is the core of Castel Caldes, which the Thun family later enlarged into the castle that greets arrivals at the village entrance. Legend says a young countess, locked in its tower for loving a minstrel, painted the frescoes of her cell herself. Woodworking for furniture is still a well-known local craft.
